GUARANTEE & RETURN POLICY
It is normal for plants to experience some stress for a period after planting, which can be shown through wilting, limited new growth, small leaves, or loss of colour on foliage. This is typically caused by a sudden change to the plant’s environment, including light conditions, watering frequency, and root shock. Please remember that a plant is a living organism and needs some time to adjust to their new home. With frequent watering, appropriate fertilizing, and some time, the root system will establish itself and any plant that is experiencing transplant shock should recover well.
Plant material will not be accepted for guarantee returns from September 30th to June 1st. This is generally the dormant season of the plant and growth will be negligible for any plants that are covered under our guarantee. Depending on the weather and the plant, you can expect to see new spring growth in your garden between mid-May and the beginning of July. Often, your plants just need more time and warmer weather to wake up after their winter dormancy.

Hardy Plant Guarantee
Hardy Trees & Shrubs
Hardy Trees, Shrubs, and Vines are guaranteed until the end of September, 2 years after it was purchased, unless otherwise specified (excluding Azaleas, Boxwood, Clematis, Japanese Maples, and Rhododendrons). If the plant dies within that time, a store credit will be issued for the amount paid upon the presentation of the dead plant with its root system intact, and proof of purchase (receipt or paid invoice with a Vandermeer Nursery guarantee tag attached). Failure to remove the plant from its pot and plant it in the ground will render your guarantee null and void.
Boxwood, Clematis, Japanese Maples, Rhododendrons, Pieris & Tender Trees (as marked)
Boxwood, Clematis, Japanese Maples, Rhododendrons, Pieris & Tender Trees (as marked) are guaranteed until September 30th of the year it was purchased. Any of these shrubs purchased after September 30th will not be guaranteed. If the plant dies within that time, a store credit will be issued for the amount paid upon the presentation of the dead plant with its root system intact, and proof of purchase (receipt or paid invoice with a Vandermeer Nursery guarantee tag attached). Failure to remove the plant from its pot and plant it in the ground will render your guarantee null and void.
Perennials & Roses
Perennials and Roses are guaranteed until September 30th of the year it was purchased. Any perennials purchased after September 30th will not be guaranteed. If the plant dies within that time, a store credit will be issued for the amount paid upon the presentation of the dead plant with its root system intact, and proof of purchase (receipt or paid invoice with a Vandermeer Nursery guarantee tag attached). Failure to remove the plant from its pot and plant it in the ground will render your guarantee null and void.
Hardy Water Plants
Hardy water plants are guaranteed until September 30th of the year it was purchased. If the plant dies within that time, a store credit will be issued for the amount paid upon presentation of the dead plant with its root system intact, and proof of purchase in the form of a receipt of paid invoice. Tropical water plants are not covered under our guarantee policy. Please see our Return Policy for more details.
Pond Hardware
Returns of pond hardware will be at the discretion of the Pond Department Manager based on the item and its condition. If accepted, the return will be issued in the form of a credit note. The pond hardware and the receipt should be brought to the Pond Department first for approval before the store credit will be issued at Customer Service.
Products not covered by this guarantee
Annual plants, tropical plants, hanging baskets, bulbs, fish, and live insect products are not guaranteed.
Store Credit Notes
Store credit notes are valid for 1 year from the date it was issued and may be used towards the purchase of any product in Vandermeer Nursery except gift cards.
Our Return Policy
Live plants including but not limited to annuals, houseplants, and water plants in original condition can be returned for full refund within 14 days of purchase with original reciept and tags (if applicable). If your plant is dying or dead, please refer to our Hardy Plant Guarantee.
Non-plant material/hard goods may be returned for a full refund within 14 days of purchase with original receipt and in original condition. Returns outside of 14 days can be returned for store credit up to 30 days after the purchase date.
Specialty items such as cut-to-size orders (liners, hoses, etc.), fish, live insect control (nematodes, ladybugs, bees, etc.), and sod are final sale and therefore not applicable for returns or exchanges.
Holiday plants such as Poinsettias, Easter Lilies, and Mums may be returned for a full refund within 7 days of purchase (up until corresponding holiday) with original receipt and in original condition.
All items purchased at a 50% discount or greater and items that are clearance priced are final sale and therefore not applicable under the return policy.
